MTWX Editorial
Let’s kill a myth.
“Staying safe” isn’t neutral.
It’s not smart. It’s not wise.
And it’s sure as hell not harmless.
Sometimes, “staying safe” is the most dangerous thing you can do.
Because safety—when rooted in fear—isn’t safety at all.
It’s surrender.
The Most Powerful Tool in the System: Your Silence
You know what powerful people fear?
Not your anger. Not your vote.
Your engagement.
As long as you’re quiet…
As long as you stay “neutral”…
As long as you tell yourself “It’s not worth getting involved”—
they win.
Tyrants don’t need your loyalty. Just your silence.
And right now, millions of people across North America are confusing fear for wisdom.
They call it “minding their own business.”
They say “I don’t do politics.”
They tell themselves, “I just want to keep my family safe.”
But here’s the truth:
Every system that’s ever exploited, oppressed, or erased people—thrived on those exact words.
Safety Is a Good Excuse. That’s Why It’s So Dangerous.
Think about it.
- Slavery didn’t end because people wanted to play it safe.
- Women didn’t win the right to vote by keeping their heads down.
- Civil rights weren’t secured because people stayed in their comfort zones.
Safety is what stops people from marching.
From speaking up.
From calling out corruption.
From demanding something better.
Because safety feels responsible.
It feels rational.
It feels like love.
But often, it’s just fear with a nicer label.
The Risk of Staying Comfortable
Here’s the irony:
The longer you try to protect your comfort, the more you risk losing everything.
You think you’re avoiding conflict—but you’re allowing rot.
You think you’re preserving peace—but you’re protecting the problem.
You think you’re staying safe—but you’re building a cage you’ll eventually have to explain to your kids.
History Doesn’t Remember the Comfortable
It remembers the loud.
The stubborn.
The ones who stood when it would’ve been easier to sit down.
So the next time you feel the urge to “keep your head down” or “wait until things calm down,” ask yourself:
Calm down for who?
Stay quiet for what?
Play it safe… while what burns behind you?
Safe Is Not the Same as Good
You weren’t meant to play defense your whole life.
You weren’t born to sit out every fight that matters.
You weren’t put here to die with perfect credit and no impact.
Safe doesn’t change anything. Brave does.
And bravery doesn’t mean you’re fearless.
It means you’ve stopped letting fear decide.
